Selecting an artwork is a pleasurable, enjoyable experience. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Choosing Original Artwork:
- Consider buying original artwork. Original art is much more livable, unique, and enjoyable experience than poster or reproduction.
- Is it for your home or office? Do you have any specific requirements? Think about dimensions of the artwork, the space/function of the work, materials to be used.
- Do you have any particular styles, colours, materials in mind? Keep an open mind. Your gut reaction is often the best way to choose artwork.
- Visualize your space and see what you want it to look like in the future. Will the piece transition with you?
- Choose a style you like: abstract, modern, or impressionist. Concentrate on artwork that fit into that category.
- Worried about colour? Use a paint chip or fabric swatch to help you find the right color palette.
Buying Original Artwork:
- Buy online. It saves a lot of time and money. Online galleries charge much less commission (if any) than regular galleries, where the price of a painting can be as twice as high. Also, not all emerging artists are represented in conventional galleries.
- Peruse online galleries rather than eBay. Many artists are reluctant to sell artwork directly and especially on eBay. Successful artists very seldom sell on eBay. For them it is non-reputable place.
- While hunting for bargains online pay attention to the site’s return policy. While some galleries offer a 7 day return, others may offer up to 30 days.
- Make sure that your artwork shipping is properly insured.
Finally:
- Buy local. Support local artists and art communities. The easiest and more effective way for artists to gain recognition is through community support. Invest in your investment!
